Beaks of Regret

The basics

Adventures aren’t only for the adventurous. At least not in our poor Bird Watcher’s world. A quiet day, maybe running some errands in town, that’s all you wanted. But instead you get bizarre puzzles, hostile neighbours, dangerous obstacles, and a nagging voice in your head. Oh and birds, lots and lots of birds.

The Game

A third-person game, focused on indirect interactions. There’s puzzles and explorations and combat, but the point is that you have a limited ability to interact. Your character has a flock of birds that you can send to do things. To grab things and bring them to you. To push things away, or to break things. You also have obstacles that you can jump over or avoid.

The Features

Puzzles

I mean there are puzzles. Lots of games have puzzles and this is one of them. Step on buttons, flip switches, find keys. Try to use machines that have some specific sequence of controls or need you to find some information from the environment.

physics Puzzles ?

Oh yeah, figuring out the puzzle is the first step. But then you have to do it… with birds! Can you reach that switch? No? can you get your birds to hit it? Oh, birds aren’t all that reliable? Maybe that’s why you don’t see a lot of service seagulls or police blue-jays. Well, good luck trying to get them to drop that box on the right button!

Combat

You’re not the only one with birds at your beck and call. And not everyone likes you! So what’s a Birdwatcher to do? Well you can throw some of your birds at them, and dodge their birds coming at you!!

Physics Combat?!

But you’re not a soldier and you don’t have a laser gun or anything. Knock a pile of boxes on someone, that might win a fight! But again, they’re birds. Maybe they knock the boxes back at you. Good luck with that!

Traversal Puzzles

Well ok, sometimes it’s not so much of a puzzle. You know where you have to go, it’s just hard to get there. Take a running jump, good luck. But remember, just as you’re no soldier you’re also no athlete! Maybe your birds can help clear your way. Maybe they’ll get in your way. Who knows!
